Charlie’s great grandfather, C.M. Rein, homesteaded in Sweet Grass Canyon in 1893.  Over the years, he and the ensuing generations built what is now the Rein Anchor Ranch.  Charlie is the 4th generation to live and work on the ranch where he and his wife Rebecca are raising their three sons, Coulter, Treston, and Tucker. They do everything together: caring for the cattle, harvesting hay, maintaining the business infrastructure, and most importantly, hunting!  Cattle ranching is a labor intensive and time consuming endeavor, but Charlie and Rebecca maintain that family comes first. 

“Hunting is a family affair for us.  We began taking our boys with us at a young age and today today all three of them have a love of the sport.  All three of them have harvested deer and elk.  Conversely, we have spent many a long day in the field and come home empty handed.  I tell my boys that there is no such thing as an unsuccessful hunt, as long as you learn something about the land and the game you are pursuing, every time you go out.  It is very fulfilling for us to watch their knowledge and appreciation of the land and the game that it holds grow and grow.”

But the lessons don’t end after the hunt is over.  All the game the family takes in is processed at home* and everyone is expected to help out.  The boys then have to take the cut of their choice and prepare a meal for the family.  A nice rack hanging on the wall is certainly a trophy to cherish, but to us, the most important part of hunting is putting meat on the table.

All guides listed are residents of Sweet Grass County and all have experience as licensed guides for other outfitting businesses. All of them are avid hunters and have spent a lot of time in the backcountry.
